Caerphilly
Famous for its castle and cheese, the town dates back many hundreds of years. The castle was built between 1268 and 1271 by Gilbert de Clare to subdue the local Welsh lords. It is the biggest castle in Wales and second only to Windsor. The borough of Caerphilly sits in the middle of the great green swathe that is the Valleys Regional Park, an association of green spaces from the English borders to Carmarthen. Caerphilly’s contribution are Cwmcarn Forest, Parc Penallta and Caerphilly Castle itself.
